Bishop England won its ninth straight game of the season and ninth consecutive playoff game in three years with a 30-0 victory over Andrews on Friday night at Jack Cantey Stadium.

Bishop England (9-2), the two-time defending state champion in Division II-AA, led 10-0 at halftime, but exploded for 20 points in the final 12 minutes.

Coach John Cantey said his team was rusty after having last week off. The Bishops had a first-round bye.

“Offensively, our rhythm was off,” Cantey said. “That week off, we paid the price tonight. We finally established the running game late, and pulled away. But basically, they played with us for most of the game.”

Nick Shiver had only 42 yards rushing on 12 carries, but scored two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 43 yards and another TD.

Quarterback Reed Fosberry rushed for 35 yards on nine carries, and completed 7 of 17 passes for 106 yards.

The Bishops tallied 242 yards in total offense, with 136 on the ground.

Carlos Smalls led Andrews with 89 yards rushing 10 carries. The visitors tallied 200 yards in total offense as Bishop England recorded its fourth shutout of the season.

Cantey was pleased with the defensive play of Hudson Little and the Fosberry brothers — Reed and Lawton.

Bishop England plays at home next Friday against Bamberg-Ehrhardt, a 43-0 winner over Garrett.

“I’ll have to start watching the film,” Cantey said. “They look like they are very good and can run the football. We have a lot to learn about them.”
