Mike Cobb and Andy Balao combined for a 14-under-par score of 57 and won the Tommy Cuthbert low gross title in the 2013 Cuthbert Classic played at Summerville Country Club. Cobb and Balao finished three shots ahead of Jess Cuthbert-Jed McCluen and Mark Horne-Tim Cone. Shooting 61s were the teams of David Bordiuk-Robert Lindley and Gary Brewer-Jason Bouting.
In the June Cuthbert low gross division, Cory Deering and David Tackett took first place. Barry Connor-Billy Long finished second and John Bowers-Bob Flowers took third.
The event raised more than $3,500 to benefit the Dorchester Free School Board’s Tommy Cuthbert Scholarship Fund.
Shadowmoss wins Interclub
Playing on its home course, the Shadowmoss team easily won the Charleston Area Men’s Interclub Golf Association’s October match, finishing with a score of 41 points. Coosaw Creek was second with 10 points, Charleston Municipal third with 5, Charleston National fourth with 4 and Legend Oaks fifth with 0. Ken McGuire of Pine Forest was the top individual with 10 points. Stan Ward of Charleston National, Wayne Wright of Shadowmoss, Ron McCullough of RiverTowne and Bill Moore of Coosaw Creek all tied for second with 9 points.
Coosaw Creek leads the yearly standings with 108 points, followed by: Wescott, 94.5; Miler, 89; Charleston National, 87; and Pine Forest, 87.
Pinewood Prep event raises $19,000
The Pinewood Prep Golf Classic held recently at Legend Oaks Golf Club raised approximately $19,000 for the school’s academic programs. The team of ward Katsanis, Mark Bowers, John Lamar and Kevin Thompson finished first.
Hurricane Junior Tour
Savannah Hallman of Mount Pleasant shot 82-81—163 and finished second in the girls 15-18 age group of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Charlotte Junior Challenge played at Fox Den Country Club in Statesville, N.C.
