Santee Cooper will conduct aerial spraying of an EPA-approved aquatic herbicide targeting the invasive aquatic plant water hyacinth in Lake Marion starting Monday through Nov. 15.
To notify boaters of spray operations, Santee Cooper employees will patrol the spray sites on airboats, post signage and be present at public and commercial boat landings located near the targeted locations.
Lake users are asked to avoid the following areas during these operations: Upper Lake Marion (Calhoun County) Stumphole Swamp; Upper Lake Marion (Clarendon County) Elliott’s tree line to Santee River, areas adjacent to Santee River discharge
The spraying is intended to improve lake access for residential and commercial properties, restore recreational opportunities and help prevent the spread of the plant to other areas within the Santee Cooper lakes system.
