A Walterboro man was killed when his car ran off the side of the road, became airborne and hit a tree early Monday in Colleton County.
The Coroner’s Office identified him as John Robert Ramsey, 54, of Jones Swamp Road.
Ramsey was driving north on Can City Road at 4:48 a.m. when he lost control and ran off the left side of the road, hitting a culvert, according to the Highway Patrol. The car then became airborne, hit a tree and landed on the left side of the roadway, officials said.
The driver was wearing a seat belt but was ejected from the car and died at the scene.
