A fire broke out at North Charleston refinery Monday but was quickly brought under control.
A fire at the MeadWestvaco Specialty Chemicals plant on Virginia Avenue was reported at 5:45 p.m. when a leak occurred during routine maintenance, spokeswoman Stephanie Mangini said. North Charleston firefighters had the blaze under control within 15 minutes.
The refinery was evacuated and shut down with no injuries and no impact on the environment, she said.
