• The 29th Annual British Car Day 2013 and welcoming reception, sponsored by the British Car Club of Charleston, will be held in Mount Pleasant. A reception will be 6-9 p.m. Oct. 25 at Harbor Breeze restaurant, 176 Patriots Point. The car show will take place 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 26 at Memorial Waterfront Park. Anyone who owns or is interested in British cars is encouraged to attend. Pre-registration continues through Sunday. Day-of-show registration will be 9 a.m.-noon. Participants-choice judging will be noon-2 p.m. Trophies will be awarded at 3:30 p.m. Other events include a spark plug-changing competition. • The 2013 Kiawah Island Motoring Retreat will be held for three days at Kiawah Island Club’s River Course. The main event Concours d’Elegance will take place 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 16 at the 18th hole of the River Course. It will feature more than 100 classic cars, with a selection of 75 or more concours-quality cars to be judged by nationally recognized experts. Admission starts at $20 in advance and $25 at the gate. Children under 12 are free. Military receive 50 percent off with an active duty ID. Auto enthusiasts can submit their vehicles for the Concours d’Elegance: The vehicles will be chosen by a selection committee. The Saturday show will have two divisions, Concours and Classic. Concours will consist of three pre-war and three post-war (1945-’74) classes — open, closed and sports and racing for both divisions. The Concours division will be judged by a panel of experts. Each class winner becomes a candidate for “Best of Show — Concours d’Elegance.” The classic division, for autos 1974 and earlier, won’t be formally judged but will include People’s Choice and Mayor’s Trophy awards. Meanwhile, a $100-per-person gala will take place 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 15 and include a classic car review, live music and dinner. The Sea Island Motoring Tour will be held 8:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 17.
