The Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital quietly reversed course on a name change announced this summer.
In late July, Children’s Hospital administrators said the hospital was rebranding itself as The Children’s Hospital of South Carolina at MUSC.
The hospital promoted the name change on social media sites and in an online video. The new name was also featured in some press releases.
Now, the hospital’s name has been changed back to its original — MUSC Children’s Hospital.
“We have relationships with a number of other excellent children’s hospitals in the state,” said MUSC Board of Trustees Chairman Tom Stephenson. “We decided it would be more appropriate to go by our former name so as not to imply that we are the only excellent children’s hospital in the state.”
MUSC Children’s Hospital is one of four children’s hospitals in South Carolina. The others are McLeod Children’s Hospital in Florence, Palmetto Children’s Hospital in Columbia and Greenville Children’s Hospital.
