Local author pens first poetry volume
Blue Bicycle Books store manager Sara Peck has written her first book of poetry, “Yr Lad Bob.” The collection, which costs $8, is published by Persistent Editions in San Francisco.
Peck will read her poetry and sign copies of the book 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at Blue Bicycle Books, 420 King St. This event also will celebrate the release of “Think of Me” and “I’ll Know: Stories” by College of Charleston professor Anthony Varallo.
Peck’s title is taken from poet Robert Creeley’s letters to Charles Olson. Combining lines of text appropriated from Creeley, Denise Levertov and Robert Duncan, and adding her own annotations, Peck blurs the lines between writer and reader and responder, laying bare the compositions.
Peck grew up in Greenville, graduated from the College of Charleston and received an MFA at Columbia College in Chicago.
She is a counselor and teacher at Blue Bicycle Books’ Write of Summer camp for kids and University School of the Lowcountry.
Varallo is fiction editor of Crazyhorse and the author of two prize-winning books, “This Day in History” and “Out Loud.”
