GREENWOOD — Dozens of hogs were running loose early Friday following a tractor-trailer accident that shut down U.S. 25 near Greenwood.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 2:00 a.m. Troopers say the tractor-trailer hit a disabled vehicle in the median, flipped on its side and slid into the southbound lanes.
Authorities say some of the hogs were killed, while some escaped into nearby woods. Others just chomped on grass at the roadside.
Officials said one person was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Both southbound lanes were closed at one point before a single lane of travel was cleared. All lanes were back open by 8 a.m.
