A suspected burglar was tracked down through stolen iPhones in a backpack he was carrying, according to Charleston police.
The Radcliffe street residents, both in their 20s. told police somebody broke in between 3 and 6:15 a.m. Saturday and took several iPhones and laptops.
A tracking app on the phones led the residents to King and Market streets, where they saw a man carrying a backpack they recognized, police spokesman Charles Francis said. The residents called police, who arrested the suspected burglar about 11:30 a.m.
Police found the stolen items in the backpack, as well as 3 grams of marijuana and 2 grams of a prescription narcotic, according to Francis.
Timothy Andrew Patrick, 23, of Arcadian Park in West Ashley was charged with first-degree burglary, simple possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
Patrick was on probation for second-degree burglary, Francis said. Patrick was being held in the Charleston County jail Monday.
The residents told police they weren’t sure if the door to their apartment was locked. Police noted some damage to the door, but the residents couldn’t say if the damage was recent.
They could not be reached Monday to tell more about what happened.
