A North Charleston police officer was hospitalized this morning after being involved in a wreck eastbound on Interstate 26.
S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the incident which happened about 7:30 a.m. near the 203 mile marker near College Park Road in Berkeley County.
Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said North Charleston officer Darryl Allen, 49, was slowing for traffic in an unmarked 2009 Chevrolet Impala when a woman driving a 2003 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle rear ended his vehicle.
North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said Allen was on his way to work when the wreck occurred.
Paramedics transported Allen to Trident Medical Center, Wyant said.
Highway Patrol troopers cited the SUV’s driver Katherine Bannister, 27, for driving too fast for conditions, Wyant said.
