A 50-year-old West Ashley woman was arrested Sunday after her former boyfriend said she attacked him with a knife while they argued over his speaking to other women on his phone.

Demetria Montgomery faces a count of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, a felony punishable with at least a year and up to 10 years in prison. She was being held in the Charleston County jail on $50,000 bail Monday.

This was the second time since December that Montgomery has been charged with attacking 52-year-old James Horton Odell, a former beau with whom she shared an apartment at 1800 William Kennerty Drive, Charleston police said.

On Dec. 30, Montgomery allegedly slashed Odell’s arm with a knife after she caught him texting his daughter, according to a police report. She had increasingly grown “jealous about the amount of time and money (Horton) spends on his daughter,” the report stated.

In the incident Sunday, Montgomery started arguing with Odell about his talking to other women on the phone, police said. Odell had broken up with Montgomery two or three months ago, but they continued to live together, an incident report stated.

Odell told police he began to pack his clothes to leave, which prompted Montgomery to grab a 6-inch kitchen knife and jab it at his chest several times, leaving two minor cuts.

Montgomery told officers Odell kicked her in the crotch area, leaving a bruise on her inner thigh, and she grabbed the knife to defend herself. She said she might have poked him in the chest a couple times with the blade, but she wasn’t sure, a police report stated.

Magistrate Linda Lombard ordered Montgomery not to come within a block of Odell as a condition of her bail. Montgomery told the judge she was planning to move out anyway and would live someplace else when she got out of jail.
