Charleston police on Tuesday arrested a bicyclist accused of robbing a man at gunpoint.

Cornelius Jenkins, 22, of Byron Road, is charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

A 41-year-old Charleston man told police he was walking along Wateree Drive toward Wimbee Drive when a man on a bicycle rode up behind him and pulled out a handgun.

The robber stole the man’s money and cell phone before he peddled away from the scene toward Highway 17, an incident report states.

Police later arrested Jenkins in connection with the incident. He is being held at the Charleston County jail pending a bail hearing, jail records show.

The robbery remains under investigation, Francis said.
