The City of Charleston’s annual MOJA Arts Festival, celebrating African-American and Caribbean art, kicks off Sept. 26. www.mojafestival.com
The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art hosts is usual eclectic mix of intriguing works by risk-taking visual artists, starting with the current exhibition featuring the work of Herb Parker and Joseph Burwell, which explores the nature of the artist’s studio. That show runs through Oct. 5, and will be followed by an installation featuring the work of Renee Stout, who explores “vestigial retentions of African cultural traditions as manifested in contemporary America.” http://halsey.cofc.edu
A new series called “Colour of Music” runs Oct. 23-27 and explores the contributions of African-Americans and other people of color to classical music. All performers are black, and much of the music was written by black composers. www.colourofmusic.org
Nuovo Cinema Italiano, the annual festival of recent Italian films, will offer its screenings and events Nov. 7-10 at the Sottile Theatre. http://italianfilmfest.cofc.edu
The third annual YALLFest, a multifaceted celebration of young adult literature started by Blue Bicycle Books’ Jonathan Sanchez and authors Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia, is slated for Nov. 9. yallfest.org
