Footlight Players and Actors’ Theatre of South Carolina have organized a fundraiser, “Strings & Stanzas,” to benefit the two companies. The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at Footlight Players Theatre, 20 Queen St.
It weaves together love poetry and chamber music, presented by actors Clarence Felder, Chris Weatherhead, Michael Fraser and Kelly McDavid, along with members of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, including its concertmaster and acting artistic director Yuriy Bekker.
“We love great poetry and music,” said Weatherhead, co-founder of Actors’ Theatre of South Carolina. “We’ve selected some extraordinary poems.”
Poets include South Carolinians such as Beatrice Witte Ravenel, Ceille Baird Welch and Archibald Rutledge, along with Europeans Dylan Thomas and William Blake.
Food for the reception is provided by Jean Carlton.
Actors’ Theatre is a professional company that tours, produces films and trains actors, writers and directors. Footlight Players, in its 82nd year, is the longest operating theater company in Chalreston that produces eight community productions annually.
Tickets for the fundraiser are $35 and $50. For more information, or to buy tickets, call 722-7521, ext. 203, or visit www.footlightplayers.net.
