Rental properties can be upscale or pedestrian, plain or chic, but rarely are they dreamy.

Property holders typically hold out their most idyllic residences for themselves.

Once in awhile, however, such pristine places come up for lease, such as when an owner wants to keep possessing a property even if finding time to visit there is proving difficult.

That seems to be happening this summer with 150 Wappoo Creek Drive villa No. 9 on James Island.

“This is a place which will make you fall in love at first sight,” Donna Sue Jones says.

She and husband David Jones own the villa. They live in Columbia and at least for now can’t fit in time to travel to the Charleston area to use the waterfront property.

The couple are renting out No. 9, 150 Wappoo Creek Drive for $1,890 a month. The two bedroom, two-and-a-half bath villa sits alongside the Intracoastal Waterway.

Among the attractions, tenants can “look at downtown from the dock,” Donna Sue Jones says.

She says the top-notch appearance starts right from the entrance. “As you arrive and enter the lush, green courtyard to the villa, you will find beautiful hibiscus and hydrangea.”

The villa lives up to its rental price. “Each morning offers a new experience as the dolphins play and the yachts sail by,” she says. Evenings can be spent relaxing at the dock watching the sunset with friends.

Features of villa No. 9 include a “living porch,” which is an extension of the living room and a fitting place “for morning coffee and the paper,” she says.

According to the Joneses, all the bedrooms and baths have been redesigned with granite, tile and European vanities. The master bathroom shower sports dual showerheads.

Stainless appliances mark the kitchen, which also showcases “a most unusual cabinetry color” — aquamarine. “In fact the soothing color scheme throughout the home is based on the cabinet color, with shades of silver blue marlin walls,” Donna Sue Jones says.

The villa is “not like anything you have seen in the past,” she says.

Notes David Jones, “It’s a diamond in the rough.”

The villa is toward the northern edge of James Island. From downtown, proceed across the Ashley River Bridge onto Savannah Highway. Steer left to Folly Road. Follow Folly over the Wappoo Bridge. Turn right onto Maybank Highway. Make the first right and stay right on Wappoo Creek Drive. Ahead is 150 Wappoo Creek Drive and villa No. 9.
