YORK, S.C. -- York County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after an officer’s gun was accidentally fired outside York Comprehensive High School before classes began.
Investigators said the deputy’s gun was in its holster when it went off around 7:30 a.m. Monday near an area where students are dropped off. The bullet went into the sidewalk and no one was hurt.
Deputy Dave Prescott has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated. Prescott had been the deputy assigned to the high school for the past eight years,
Maj. Robert Hudgins called the firing of the gun puzzling since it was in the officer’s holster.
