The Center for Women today named Amy Brennan as its new executive director to spearhead the groups’s outreach efforts in the Charleston region and across the state

She succeeds Jennet Robinson Alterman, who left the locally based organization in May after 12 years in the top post.

The center said Brennan has more than 20 years of experience working with nonprofit groups. Most recently, she was director of development for the Krause Center for Leadership & Ethics at The Citadel since 2012. Before that, she was executive director of three nonprofit organizations, most recently at the Georgetown County Family YMCA.

“I am honored to be assuming the position of executive director for the Center for Women, and I look forward to meeting the center’s network of engaged members, program participants and supporters, Brennan said in a statement today. “My passion has always been in helping others to succeed through community development while partnering with caring donors to achieve our united vision.”

Alterman left the Cannon Street group as it began to shift it focus from a program-based initiatives to a cause-based organization.

Jane Perdue, president of the Center for Women’s board of directors, said in a statement that Brennan’s “passion for supporting women aligns well with the center’s focus on advancing economic and leadership opportunities for South Carolina women. She’ll play an integral role in the Charleston region and across the state as the Center for Women expands its programs to help women succeed personally and professionally every day.”
