The Charleston RiverDogs (29-30, 68-59 overall) committed three errors and the West Virginia Power (36-22, 73-55) took advantage with a 7-4 victory Wednesday in front of 3,750 fans at Riley Park.
In the top of the seventh inning, reliever Evan Rutckyj hit a batter, walked another, and then gave up a three-run homer to Josh Bell, that gave the Power a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the eighth, two errors on one play by Charleston helped West Virginia score three times in the inning without an RBI to take a 7-4 lead.
Jake Cave was the only RiverDog with multiple hits, going 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Bird went 1 for 5 and knocked in his team-leading 79th RBI of the year.
The finale of the three-game series and homestand will be at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Riley Park. LHP Eric Wooten (1-2, 1.80 ERA) will start for Charleston, and RHP Tyler Glasnow (8-3, 2.40 ERA) will take the mound for West Virginia.
