A 15-passenger van flipped over in the northbound lanes of I-95 tonight in Dorchester County, injuring five children and one adult.
The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. near mile marker 70, Dorchester County Fire Chief Tres Atkinson said. All three northbound lanes are closed but Atkinson said one lane should be open soon.
Two helicopters were parked on the interstate as they waited for authorities to free a woman from the van. As of 9:40 p.m. she was being flown to Medical University Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, Atkinson said.
All of the children appeared to have non-life threatening injuries as well. They were taken to various hospitals by ambulance, Atkinson said.
Dorchester Fire and Rescue, Dorchester County EMS and Colleton County Fire and Rescue all responded to the wreck.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
