A warehouse at the old Navy base in North Charleston caught on fire Sunday night, prompting more than a dozen fire trucks and other emergency vehicles to the scene off Spruill Avenue.
Units from North Charleston, Charleston and St. Andrews fire departments arrived at 1150 North Port Drive just after 7 p.m., North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic said. A light haze of smoke was coming from the building. Most of the fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler system. There were no reported injuries.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours to make sure the fire was out and to perform salvage and overhaul, Sancic said. There was no immediate information on what was stored in the warehouse. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
