Charleston police say a historical marker commemorating a 1960 Civil Rights sit-in was damaged by a truck Monday, about a week after it was erected.
A witness told police a large box truck was leaving a parking spot in front of the S,H. Kress & Co. building at 281 King Street about 5:45 p.m. when it appeared to accidentally hit the sign, police spokesman Charles Francis said.
The truck left the scene. Francis said the cab of the box truck is yellow.
