Apartment building catches fire near Crosstown in Charleston
Motorists on the Crosstown got quite a light show as they drove past President Street Monday night, as dozens of emergency vehicles responded to an apartment fire near the busy traffic artery.
Firefighters got the call about 7:45 p.m. and arrived to find fire inside one of the apartments, Charleston Fire Marshal Mike Julazadeh said. The fire was quickly brought under control. Investigators were at the scene at 9 p.m. working to determine how the fire started, and Julazadeh didn’t have any other details.
Several fire trucks, police cars and other emergency vehicles with flashing lights surrounded the yellow building, which is just a few yards up from the stoplight at the Crosstown. A police cruiser with flashing blue lights blocked off the intersection.
There was no immediate estimate how many units the building contained. Personnel on scene said everybody who was in the building was evacuated and there were no injuries.
