A Charleston woman who police said had too much to drink hit a wall of the Ravenel Bridge and knocked two light poles over the edge Tuesday night.
The 41-year-old woman was charged with driving under the influence and driving too fast for conditions, according to an incident report from Charleston police. Police said her blood alcohol measured 0.19 on a breath test; the legal limit is 0.08.
The black Subaru hit the retaining wall of the exit ramp onto I-26 west just before midnight, according police. The rear end slid 40 to 50 yards along the wall and knocked two Department of Transportation light poles off their bases and over the edge of the wall, according to the report.
The car’s rear end was hanging over the retaining wall when officers arrived. The driver was not hurt. She was removed from the car and taken to jail.
