COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Fort Jackson will get a new commander next month.
The Army said Thursday that Brig. Gen. Bradley A. Becker will take over the service’s largest basic training base in a ceremony Aug. 27.
Becker will take over from Brig. Gen. Peggy Combs, who will return to her position as commandant of the Army’s chemical school at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Combs has been interim commander at Fort Jackson since Brig. Gen. Bryan Roberts was relieved of command earlier this month because of misconduct.
Becker joined the Army as a second lieutenant in 1986. He is assistant deputy director for joint training in Suffolk, Va.
He has been deployed three times to Iraq and served in Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm. He also has served in Germany and South Korea.
