A public safety officer for The Citadel was not cited Thursday morning after authorities said she crashed her cruiser into a Wagener Terrace marsh.
The 57-year-old officer, Camille Persen-Stone, accidentally accelerated while patrolling St. Margaret Street, sending the cruiser she was driving into the empty riverfront marsh, said Mark Danes, the school’s marketing director.
The incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. at the beginning of the officer’s shift, Danes said.
No injuries were reported in the incident and no other vehicle was involved, Danes said. The cruiser was towed to The Citadel’s fleet maintenance facility, he said.
Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said the officer was not cited in the incident.
The Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
