State-owned utility Santee Cooper lowered the flood gates on Santee Dam a little Thursday to decrease runoff from Lake Marion into the Santee River as recent heavy rains have let up some.
The gates are now 4 feet open as opposed to 6 feet since late last week, spilling 150,000 gallons per second instead of 225,000 gallons per second.
“Although lake flows remain above normal, they are tapering off,” the Moncks Corner-based utility said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the inflows and adjust our spill accordingly.”
