Hanahan capped an undefeated run at the Dixie Angels state tournament, defeating Boiling Springs, 3-1, on Wednesday at Wescott Park in North Charleston to advance to the World Series.
Tyler Henderson allowed one run on one hit for Hanahan, which scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to capture the traditional play division (no stolen bases) state title. Hanahan will play July 26-31 in the Dixie Angels World Series in Petal, Miss.
Sumter also went undefeated in the X-play division (stolen bases), defeating Aynor, 9-3. Sumter will advance to Alexandria, La., for the World Series on Aug. 2-8.
The Citadel will host its fourth annual Lady Bulldogs Football 101 clinic on July 26.
The clinic is open to women and teenage girls and is $50 per person or $85 for two registrants. Participants receive a goody bag, T-shirt and two tickets to the Bulldogs’ season opener Aug. 31 against Charleston Southern at Johnson Hagood Stadium.
Registration is open at www.cfabulldogs.org. A portion of the clinic is tax deductible as proceeds directly benefit The Citadel Football Association’s Scholarship fund.
The clinic will begin with a 4:30 p.m. reception at Seignious Hall with tours of the training and equipment rooms. The coaching staff will discuss the basics of offensive and defensive football and there will be a weight room demonstration.
Then it’s off to Johnson Hagood Stadium from 7:15 to 8 p.m. for on-field practice and a catered meal hosted by Kay Higgins, wife of head coach Kevin Higgins.
