Some time early in the day, Linda Law typically gazes out the kitchen window.

“The sun comes up here,” she says. “It goes all the way around and sets right here at the front door.”

Law explains, “I don't like a dark house.”

Indeed, the residence isn't at all dim. Law and husband Norris Law patterned the custom layout to absorb as much of the sun's rays as possible. They built the two-story 3,178-square-foot house 12 years ago in Pinopolis, a cozy hamlet on Lake Moultrie.

In that span, their children morphed into adults; now the couple sport a host of grandchildren. They figure it's time to downsize.

The Laws put their house at 1732 Pinopolis Road up for sale in late spring. They're asking $679,000.

“We're hoping we could build another home,” says Norris Law, a real estate associate with Hood Realty in St. Stephen and listing agent.

The couple savor Pinopolis' close-knit nature and “small village atmosphere.” Law grew up in nearby Moncks Corner while his wife transplanted from West Ashley. “As far as Pinopolis is concerned, it's all families,” he says.

The residence sits back from Pinopolis Road, the town's main street. A short connecting roadway leads through two brick posts to a circular driveway in front of the Lowcountry-style house. The front yard complements a large front porch, two-car garage, dormer windows and red tin roof. In back, the property stretches to a private dock with deepwater access on Pinopolis Cove, a finger of Lake Moultrie.

It's inside that the open design draws the eye. Hardwood floors underskirt the first level except for tile in the kitchen and the master bathroom. Carpeting highlights the upstairs bedrooms.

Rooms display 10-foot ceilings, helping to maintain the home's airy appearance. And nearly all of the carefully placed windows offer views of the lake.

A formal dining room hugs the front left of the house, while across the foyer, there's a den large enough for its own piano. A pedestral sink distinguishes a powder room off the entrance hallway.

Situated just past the stairs, the great room centers the house. Vaulted ceiling, fireplace with wooden mantel and built in cabinets mark the wide-open room, which serves as the living quarters.

The white-hued kitchen further lightens 1732 Pinopolis Road. Broad countertops, refrigerator, dishwasher, built-in oven, microwave and Jenn Air cooktop range in a middle island mark the culinary outpost. A bar overlooks the family room, while a side breakfast area separates the kitchen from the ample, screened-in back porch.

Somewhat removed, the master suite off the great room can prove popular for seniors who want to avoid climbing stairs. The sizable bedroom absorbs a full-sized bed, furniture, fixtures and its own fireplace, while the plush master bathroom encompasses an extra large garden tub, glass shower with gold trim and double sinks.

The second floor showcases some of the Laws' handiwork. Stairs, which oversee the great room, lead to separate upper-floor expanses.

At left stands a recreation room that Linda Law decorated in an outdoorsy theme. Norris Law put sheetrock in attic space to create a secluded office with clear views of the backyard. He also installed tables in a computer nook that can be closed off.

The right wing of the upstairs touts a sitting room, two decent-sized guest bedrooms and bathroom in between.

Out back, the property shows off a deck sizable enough for a grill, brick patio, palmettos and other landscaping around the house and a spacious lawn.

Noted for its communal spirit, Pinopolis built up along a spit of land just northwest of the Berkeley County seat at Moncks Corner. The community claims three churches and a postage-stamp sized post office.

“I enjoy living out here,” Linda Law says.

The house stands near the center of Pinopolis. From the south, take Interstate 26 west to exit 209A, which is U.S. Highway 52. Follow Highway 52 through Goose Creek and continue eight miles to Moncks Corner. Stay on Highway 52 and make a left on S.C. Highway 6, or Main Street. Follow Highway 6 for two miles and veer right on Pinopolis Road. Proceed about two miles and on the right is 1732 Pinopolis Road.
