When Barbara Schmiel of Westminster (SC) heard the FDA was going to approve the Lap-Band procedure for people with BMI's of 30 and above with a risk factor, she started the process to have surgery, which she hopes to have in April. The 5'3, 183-pound woman, who suffers with sleep apnea and high cholesterol, says her attempts to lose weight have failed and that she worries about more health complications as she enters her 50s.
