Downey signs on for 2 more ‘Avengers’ films
NEW YORK — Robert Downey Jr. has signed up for two more “Avengers” films.
Marvel announced recently that the actor will reprise his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark for “The Avengers 2” and “The Avengers 3.”
Joss Whedon is to return as director of the next “Avengers” film. He is writing the screenplay now. Production is to begin in March, with a theatrical release in May 2015.
Costner takes batting practice in Cleveland
CLEVELAND — Kevin Costner took timeout from filming his football movie in Cleveland for a little batting practice before the Indians played the Minnesota Twins on Sunday.
Wearing an Indians’ jersey and cap, Costner hit several line drives from pitches thrown by bullpen coach Kevin Cash as Cleveland’s players looked on. He also played catch in the outfield, fielded grounders at shortstop and took time to chat with several players and coaches.
“Draft Day” has Costner as a Browns’ executive attempting to acquire the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.
‘Dancing’ pros join ‘Forever Tango’
NEW YORK — “Dancing With the Stars” duo Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have shimmied aboard the Broadway-bound “Forever Tango.”
Producers said recently the pair will perform in the show at the Walter Kerr Theatre from July 9-28.
Smirnoff is a mirror ball champion who won five U.S. National Championships. Chmerkovskiy has been on Broadway before, in “Burn the Floor” in 2009.
