Game On hangs on going to final day of Carolina Billfish Classic
MOUNT PLEASANT – The scene has been set for quite a battle for Saturday’s final day of fishing in the Carolina Billfish Classic being fished out of Toler’s Cove Marina and Georgetown Landing.
Thirty-one of the 32 entries in the third event of the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series are eligible to fish Saturday, and the unofficial leaderboard scoreboard is tightly bunched with four boats at 600 points for releasing a single blue marlin
Game On, owned by Bubba Roof and captained by Trey McMillan, remained in first place with its release of a blue marlin on Thursday. Chasin’, owned by Smyth McKissick and captained by Bennett Griffith, released a blue marlin at 10:26 a.m. Friday, its first day of fishing, to squeeze into second.
Big Sky, owned and captained by Jim Johnston, slipped to third place with its 10:56 a.m. Thursday release of a blue marlin.
Boats score 600 points for blue marlin releases, 300 for white marlin releases, 200 for sailfish releases and one point per pound for blue marlin that are weighed, and ties are broken based on the earliest time of release.
Participants released six billfish Friday. In addition to Chasin’, Wildlife also had a blue marlin release while Crystal Blue, Dem Boys, Benchmark and Micabe all released sailfish. The boats have released 10 billfish through two days of fishing.
