BURTON, S.C. -- JoAnne Murdaugh doesn’t live in the middle of a highway, it just feels that way.
The Beaufort Gazette reports the Burton resident lives on a sharp curve and five times in the past year drivers have smashed into her fence. Murdaugh has lived in the house 39 years and says there’s about one crash a year into her yard. The curve is at the end of a half-mile straightaway.
The latest incident was last weekend when a driver smashed through the fence and into an above-ground pool. The driver drove out the front gate without stopping.
The state Transportation Department last month placed signs with arrows at the curve. Now they will put up larger curve signs. Murdaugh would like to also see blinking lights and perhaps speed bumps.
