As Ethel Forgar tells it, the first time each of her children and grands dipped their toes in water to swim or paddle around was at Lake Moultrie.

It was where she and husband Mickey Forgar in 1975 built a four-room house for vacations and time away from their Goose Creek home.

At some point, the couple turned the house at Bonneau Beach on the lake’s southern shore into their permanent residence. The 204 Hines Drive property gradually would be added onto and today touts a master suite upstairs and a sunroom facing the backyard.

Her husband died seven years ago, and the Forgar family is spread out as far as Georgia and Mississippi. So, Ethel Forgar is selling the 2,274-square-foot house for $229,900.

“This property is on the canal, by the cove and not far from the Lake area,” says Jackie Lawson, Realtor with AgentOwned Realty and listing agent for 204 Hines Drive.

In her descriptive write-up, Lawson calls the one-and-a-half story house, “Best buy on Lake Moultrie.” She adds, “Enjoy the outdoor living, wildlife, fishing and boating.”

There are scores of features that make 204 Hines Drive, situated in the General Moultrie II neighborhood, ideal as a lake house. A dock and covered boat slip are on a canal behind the property, which has a cove view. Near the entrance is a detached two-car garage with workshops and storage, and a metal fence rims the backyard. A public boat landing, meanwhile, is just two houses away.

Lawson says the 38-year-old residence and 0.3 acre deeded lot would be fitting for buyers of “second homes (and) vacation homes.” Yet, “A lot of people who live around here are permanent people,” she says.

An open floor plan distinguishes the house, Lawson says. Hardwood floors dominate the living quarters and ceramic tile spotlights the bathrooms.

Renovated after Hurricane Hugo in 1989, the living room showcases a gas fireplace with brick surround and wood mantel. Adjacent is the ample dining room. The glass enclosed sunroom-family room includes a vaulted ceiling, just tall enough to contain a pair of decorative cacti.

A rising wooden walkway and covered front porch mark the entrance to 204 Hines Drive. Just inside is the kitchen, boasting a center island, tile floors, skylight and updated cabinet organizers, Lawson says. Among the appliances are a smooth top stove with a “retractable downdraft” ventilation system and a wall oven.

The ground floor also encompasses two broad bedrooms, one of which has been turned into a den; and a full bath. Attached in back is an enclosed porch.

Upstairs, the house unveils a “huge” master bedroom accentuated with vaulted ceilings, a glassed-in sitting area and two walk-in closets, the Realtor says. The roomy master bath displays a “step-up” jetted garden tub that stays heated even after the water is turned off. Elsewhere are dual sinks and cabinets, hidden “his and hers” clothes hampers and a large walk-in shower with two sets of showerheads. Also on the upper floor is the laundry room. The house got a new roof in 2005.

Lawson says she has grown attached to owner Ethel Forgar.

“I used to live on Lake Marion in Eutawville so I know how my seller is going to miss her home on Lake Moultrie. She carries with her many good memories of her late husband, family and friends in this home,” Lawson says. “And now, I’m proud to have been included in the memories, as I have made another good friend.”

The residence is toward the center of Hines Drive. Heading west, take Interstate 26 to exit 209A for U.S. Highway 52 and head north to Goose Creek. Travel another 10 miles to Moncks Corner and follow Highway 52 over the Tail Race Canal. Continue five miles to Bonneau. Turn left in Bonneau on Black Oak Road by the Exxon gas station. Go a mile to Bonneau Beach and turn right on Butter Road, bearing right as it becomes General Moultrie Drive. Make a left on General Moultrie Drive, then turn right on Hines Drive. Ahead on the right is 204 Hines Drive.
