Greenville scored four first-inning runs to defeat Charleston, 6-2, on Tuesday night at Riley Park and knock the RiverDogs out of the Southern Division lead in the South Atlantic League.

Cody Koback and David Chester drove in two runs apiece to lead the Drive (17-39) past the RiverDogs (33-22) in front of 2,560 fans in a game delayed one hour, 27 minutes due to rain.

Following the delay, the Drive wasted no time scoring the first runs. After singling to right field and reaching second on an error, Mookie Betts scored on a Koback single to center field. Then with runners on the corners, Chester hit a two-run double to score Koback and Alex Hassan. Chester then made the score 4-0 as he scored on an Aneury Tavarez single.

RiverDogs starting pitcher Luis Niebla (2-2) settled down after a shaky first inning as he would not allow another run until the sixth.

Jacob Dahlstrand (1-1) picked up his first win of the season for the Drive.

The Drive extended its lead in the sixth inning. After doubling down the left field line, Koback scored on another Chester double. In the seventh, Koback drove in Betts to make it 6-1.

Offensively, it was a slow night for the RiverDogs as they managed just four hits. A solo home run by All-Star Peter O’Brien, his team-leading eighth, in the fourth inning gave Charleston its first run. The RiverDogs would not score again until the eighth as JoseRosario scored on a Claudio Custodio single.

Jake Cave ended his 0 for 31 drought as he singled in the bottom of the first inning.
