Sweetgrass Festival showcases food, Gullah Geechee culture and entertainment
The Sweetgrass Festival at Mount Pleasant’s Waterfront Park is underway. Earlier this afternoon, people weaved through the tents at the park that sold jewelry, food, and sweetgrass baskets.
A stage showcased performances of gospel songs and praise dances as well as African drumming and dancing. Some kids beat the heat by plunging down a blow-up water slide. Others cooled off with smoothies or Italian Ice.
The festival continues throughout the day until 8 p.m. Admission and parking is free. Alcohol is not being sold on the site and animals, skateboards and bicycles are not allowed.
