ROME, GA. — Charleston’s Reymond Nunez drove in four runs and was a triple shy of the cycle as the RiverDogs rolled to an 11-5 win over the Rome Braves on Monday in South Atlantic League baseball.
Nunez went 3 for 5 with his sixth homer of the year as the RiverDogs (30-18) won their third straight.
Charleston starter Evan Rutckyj (5-2) allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings, striking out five and walking one.
After making a spectacular diving catch in the second inning, Charleston right fielder Danny Oh doubled home the first run in the third inning.
Nunez belted a three-run homer in the fourth to make it 4-0. After Rome (25-23) cut it to 4-3, the RiverDogs scored two runs in the sixth, four in the eighth and one more in the ninth.
Game 2 of this three-game series in Rome is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. today. Charleston will send right-hander Vicente Campos (1-1, 3.94 ERA) against Rome right-hander Patrick Scroggin (4-3, 3.27).
