Family to Family

Family to Family will meet 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, through May 24, at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, 109 Bee St., Charleston, in the Veterans Enrichment Center: New J Wing.

Family to Family is an educational series for family members and friends of individuals challenged by severe and persistent mental illness. These may include depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia or other mental disorders.

Memory Loss

The Palms of Mount Pleasant hosts a support group for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

The group provides support and encouragement for people who have been diagnosed with memory loss, their caregivers, and family and friends. The group is open for anyone interested in learning more about dementia and/or in search of a support network.

The group meets the first and third Monday of every month from 1-2 p.m. in The Palms’ private dining room.

Sarcoidosis

A support group for those with sarcoidosis meets at 6:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month.

Bereaved Parents

The Bereaved Parents of the USA support group meets at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month at North Charleston City Hall, Interstate 26 at Montague Avenue.

Take the elevator to the second floor, exit to the right, and the meetings are in the break room on the left.

The group is a national self-help organization that offers support, care and compassion for bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents following the death of a child.

Weight loss

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is an international, nonprofit, weight-loss support and wellness education organization.

TOPS provides members with information, motivation and fellowship in attaining and maintaining weight-loss goals. TOPS helps people meet their individual needs through group support.

The group meets 6:30-7 p.m. Thursdays for weigh-in; the meeting is 7-8 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 604 Pitt St., Mount Pleasant.

Breast cancer

Embracing U Breast Cancer Foundation is committed to the emotional support and encouragement of those who are experiencing the effect of breast cancer, either personally or by relationships.

All breast cancer patients, survivors and family members are invited to join the group every third Wednesday of each month at James Island Charter High School, 1000 Fort Johnson Road.

Alzheimer’s

Monthly Alzheimer’s support group meetings are available.

Meetings are offered 10 a.m. to noon the second Tuesday of each month at First Baptist Church, 141 St. James Ave., Goose Creek. Facilitator is Angela Rooman, R.N.

Meetings also are offered 7-9 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at Grace Lutheran Church, 1600 Trolley Road, Summerville.

The facilitator is Gretchen Blair, LMSW.

Myasthenia Gravis

The Low Country Myasthenia Gravis Support Group meets 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the East Cooper Medical Center, 2000 Hospital Drive, Mount Pleasant.

Meetings are free and open to people who have been affected by MG and are interested in discussing the neuromuscular disorder, sharing experiences and receiving support from fellow attendees.

The Charleston Amputee Support Team meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital.

The meeting is open to all amputees, family and friends.

MS Self-Help

The Mount Pleasant Multiple Sclerosis Self-Help Group meets 10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month.

Those with MS and their caregivers are welcome to come and share their experiences while finding support from group members.
