Several Lowcountry agencies are expected to hold a press conference this afternoon to discuss how they will keep the Edisto River clean and safe this summer. The move comes after several incidents in past summers including littering, underage drinking, drunk and disorderly conduct, property damage and indecent exposure.
Both Colleton County Sheriff Andy Strickland and Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight are expected to speak about the collaboration with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Colleton KEYS, a community coalition that addresses underage drinking issues.
Officials plan to utilize several aircraft, watercraft and other vehicles in their effort to curb crime on the river and promote a family environment.
