A Charleston County Sheriff’s deputy, a woman and her poodle were injured in an auto wreck this afternoon at Magwood Road and Paul Cantrell Boulevard in West Ashley.
Witness Thomas Bonavita of West Ashely said the deputy was coming through the intersection against a red light, with his blue lights on, and collided with a woman driving a Honda Pilot.
“There was a lot of blood in her car,” said Bonavita, who rushed to provide aid. He said the woman was calm and was taken to a hospital after having Bonavita promise to aid her injured poodle. He said the woman’s veterinarian arrived a short time after the 2:30 p.m. wreck.
“It’s a miracle nobody died,” said Bonavita.
A state Highway Patrol report said Charleston County Deputy William Fawcett, 43, was crossing Paul Cantrell Boulevard with his lights and siren on when his cruiser was struck by the Honda driven by Lucia Crull, 58. Fawcett and Crull were both injured, and were taken to local hospitals.
