It was hard not to notice all the work going on near the corner of Savannah Highway and Interstate 526 the past year or so.
Now the job is complete, and the new Fred Anderson Toyota of Charleston dealership has opened. Officials earlier this month cut the ribbon on the 47,000-square-foot store at 2100 Savannah Highway. It replaces a long-in-the-tooth building that dates to prior owner West Ashley Toyota.
Owned by Anderson Automotive Group, the new dealership lists scores of features including a children’s play area, snack bar, café, lounge and courtesy shuttles. The maintenance and repair center has 21 service bays. The store, according to Anderson, is “designed to make the car buying experience convenient for customers and their families.” The construction is based on Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.’s guidelines for exterior design and amenities, the dealer said.
“Our staff is totally committed to giving customers fast and friendly service. As a third generation, family-owned business, a big part of that means looking for ways we can help make Charleston a better place to live by supporting our local community,” said Fred Anderson, chief executive of Anderson Automotive Group. “We’re very excited to be part of the Charleston market.”
Founded in 1955, Anderson Automotive Group runs seven new-car franchises and 10 retail locations in South Carolina and North Carolina.
•Nissan praises pair of metro Charleston winners•
The Lowcountry twice made the list of top honors for one Japanese carmaker, according to an ad in Automotive News trade publication.
Winners of the Nissan “Owner First Award of Excellence” for 2013 included Hudson Nissan in North Charleston and Morris Nissan in Charleston.
The local outlets were the only winning dealerships in South Carolina. Nationwide, 120 dealerships took home the Owner First excellence awards.
In congratulating the winners, Nissan said that 2012 “wasn’t only our most innovative year ever. It was also our most successful year ever. In no small part, thanks to the professionalism displayed by our retail partners. For the first time ever, Nissan sold over a million new vehicles in a single year. And with partners like you, we are confident it won’t be the last.”
