Coast Guard officials will kickoff National Safe Boating Week on Saturday at 11 a.m.
A free event will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park, a news release said.
Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary and other maritime responders will demonstrate boating safety techniques and answer questions from the public.
About 20 response vessels will be on display and handouts will be dispersed, the release said.
National Safe Boating Week is an annual awareness campaign promoted by the Coast Guard.
The initiative encourages people to take appropriate precautions such as obtaining a free vessel safety check, wearing life jackets, and filing float plans, according to the release.
