The College of Charleston men’s soccer team this fall will face seven teams that participated in the 2012 NCAA tournament.
The Cougars, who begin their inaugural season in the Colonial Athletic Association, will have eight regular season matches at Patriots Point.
A grueling schedule that includes the 13th annual Nike/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic with games against NCAA tournament teams Akron (Aug. 30) and Xavier (Sept. 1), and road games at Stanford (Sept. 20) and California (Sept 22) will help the Cougars in the RPI.
“Last fall, with two weeks left in the season, we were in a prime position to win an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament,” College of Charleston coach Ralph Lundy said. “The reason we were in that position was because of the scheduling, and we are going to stay committed to playing the best teams in the country.”
Other NCAA tournament participants include road matchups against Winthrop (Oct. 1), UAB (Oct. 25) and Northeastern (Nov. 2) and home games with Coastal Carolina (Oct. 8) and Drexel (Nov. 6).
The Cougars open CAA play Sept. 28 at home against UNC Wilmington. The CAA tournament will begin Nov. 9 with the finals to be played Nov. 16.
