A 13-year-old boy from Beaufort drowned in the Ashepoo River in Colleton County Saturday, according to Coroner Rich Harvey.
He identified the victim as Norman “Kirk” Kirkland.
The coroner said the boy was swimming in the river about 6:30 p.m. with other family members at Crosby Boat Landing near U.S. Highway 17 between Jacksonboro and Gardens Corner.
His body was found about 40 feet from the dock, according to Barry McRoy with Colleton County Fire and Rescue.
