The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department recently held a local Pitch, Hit and Run competition, the official skills competition of Major League Baseball for youth ages 7-14.
The individual winners in each age and gender group advanced to the Sectional Competition, which will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brinker Field in West Ashley, off Playground Road.
The national finals will be at the 2013 Major League All-Star Game July 16 at Citi Field in New York.
Clarke Brunson won all categories in the girls’ 11-12 age group with 600 all-around points: 150 for pitching, 140 for hitting and 310 for running.
Mount Pleasant boys winners included:
7-8: All-around, Jonathan Gunn (553 points); pitching, Jonathan Gunn (225); hitting, Jacob Johnson (224); running, Dylan Baker (260).
9-10: All-around, Nathan Slesinski (802); pitching, Nathan Slesinski (300) and Langdon Moore (300); hitting, Nathan Slesinski (282); running, Michael Petry (390).
11-12: All-around, Drayton Green (798); pitching, John Miller (300); hitting, Drayton Green (368); running, Luke Panzarella (350).
13-14: All-around, Derek Sireci (1,069); pitching, Derek Sireci (375); hitting, Evan McIntyre (300); running, Derek Sireci (410).
