A Mount Pleasant man was arrested today in the death of a 2-year-old boy left in his care in March.
Bryan Okeith Seabrook, 25, of Mathis Ferry Road is charged with homicide by child abuse. The 2-year-old died of severe abdominal injuries as a result of blunt-force trauma, said Maj. Stan Gragg of the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
Police were sent to East Cooper Medical Center about 7 p.m. March 19 to investigate a child’s death, according to the incident report. Seabrook brought in a child who was unresponsive and was pronounced dead a short time later. He told police that the child threw up at the table and appeared weak in the bath tub, then appeared even worse after he put in him bed, so he brought him into the hospital, according to the report.
Seabrook was charged after an investigation into the death. No further explanation of the charge was available Thursday. He is scheduled for a bond hearing today.
Seabrook has no prior criminal record in Charleston County, according to court records.
