College of Charleston senior Matt Pegler has been named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Pegler threw seven strong innings, allowing just two hits in the Cougars’ 3-0 win over Wofford this past Saturday. The Preseason SoCon Pitcher of the set a new career record with 10 strikeouts and gave up just one walk.
In his last two outings, Pegler has gone 2-0 with no earned runs in 14 innings and 18 strikeouts. He has brought his season ERA back down to 3.55 which ranks sixth in the league. Pegler currently has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6.0 which leads the SoCon and ranks 22nd in the nation.
This was Pegler’s first weekly honor of the 2013 season, and first pitching award for the Cougar staff which leads the conference with a 4.05 ERA.
