The Jerry Zucker Middle School Band recently received an overall rating of “excellent” at the state Concert Festival at Burke High School.
It was the only middle or high school from North Charleston to perform at the event.
According to Mark Romano, director of the Zucker Band, the Concert Festival is the “PASS test of the band world,” and it is almost unprecedented for a band that is two years old to receive such a high score, especially as this was the band’s first experience at the competition.
Concert Festival is an annual event sponsored by the South Carolina Band Directors Association.
The Zucker Band students who performed at Concert Festival include Jessica Boyd, Katie Clark, Mollie Tomkins and Katelynn Clark (flute); Le’Gaia Lowe, Kaela Sorrell, and Jarret Brogdon (clarinet); Bryon Ward (bass clarinet); Destiny Triplett, Jhyl’lis Rhodes, and Talana Green (alto sax); Marquis Burdines (tenor sax); JayShaun Gadsden (baritone sax); Bryan Herrera, Jared Rivers, Kristina Ford, and Destiney Swinton (trumpet); Dezmond Triplett and Kysia Holston (French horn); Caleb Broom, Jakob Knouse, Knowlyn McCall, Joshua Bailey and Kevin DeGuzman (trombone); Tarayaez Raphael (euphonium); Lanard Chisolm (tuba); Zyan Madden, James Gulley, and Jakobe Brooks (percussion).
