Severe thunderstorms and multiple wrecks were causing traffic backups on area roads this afternoon.
About 4:30 p.m., the S.C. Department of Transportation reported all westbound lanes of Interstate 26 were closed due to a wreck involving a tractor-trailer.
According to police radio traffic, one westbound lane had been opened to traffic by 4:50 pm., but traffic was moving slowly.
At 5:30 p.m., the S.C. Highway Patrol’s website was reporting troopers were working on more than a dozen wrecks in the tri-county area, with at least five on Interstate 26.
Other agencies were reporting wrecks throughout the area.
