A Kiawah Island resident has been named to the committee that will search for Clemson University’s new president.
Bill Hendrix Jr. was appointed along with five others this week by Board of Trustees Chairman David Wilkins.
Hendrix is a former CEO and chairman of Remington Arms Co. He is a Clemson alumnus and one of seven life members of the university board.
E. Smyth McKissick III of Greenville is chairman of the search committee. Others appointed are Ronald Lee of Aiken, Louis Lynn of Columbia, Joseph Swann of Greenville and Kim Wilkerson of Cayce.
Jim Barker announced Tuesday he plans to retire as president and become an architecture professor at the school. Barker said he will remain in office until a new president is chosen.
Wilkins said Barker’s offer to stay on as president will allow trustees to be thorough and deliberate.
